Brake pad bedding question
Bedding has two purposes, two burn off the binders in new pads, and to put a layer of pad material on the rotors. Bedding new pads is important for the first reason, but frankly I have stopped worrying about the second. If pads have already been bedded (run hot) I don't do it again and have had not problems thus far. I have been told that some compounds are not compatible and the rotors should be lightly sanded when you switch, but I have generally ignored this advice without problem.
i'm guessing you use both pads on the same rotors. to answer your question in a word, no.
aside from burning the binder and layer of pad material, i always felt there is a third reason, and that is to maximize pad/rotor contact. since both types of pads have already been used on the same rotors, each pair of each type (for each corner) already have the same wear grooves as each other.
the only thing you need to do for the best result is use the same exact pad in the same exact position every time. that way you need to make sure that any grooves in the pad match any grooves in the rotor.
the wayyou can tell if the two pad types are not compatible is if you get jerky or shuddery braking when you use them on the same rotors.
i hope that made sense....i'm starting to ramble

Thank you all for your input.
I have swapped them a couple of times, never re-bedding them, and have not noticed any problems. I do keep them in the same exact location, and they are on the same rotors.
I agree with all reasons to bed new pads, and figured that normal driving would not require bedding the OEM pads, and first track warm up will take care of the track pads.
Thanks again for the re-enforcement, I feel better knowing I'm not doing something "wrong".
