Default brake pad wear

I changed my panther+ pads today and was suprised by the wear pattern. The rears were more worn than the fronts. This is the same wear pattern I saw with my oem pads. After fying the oem pads I added front brake duct for cooling. And indeed it works as I recorded front rotor temps of 360 degrees and the rears were 600+, so I guess that might explain why the rears were more worn, cracked and the pad backing was much more discolored--fried. My brakes have always worked well but I thought the fronts did 90% of the work,-yet it seems my rear pads do more than that. Any ideas or comments?

The main problem is that with our 50/50 weight split, the rear brakes do more work than on other cars.

If you take a look at the pad area of the front brake pads and compare it to the rear, you'll notice how much smaller the rears are.

That, and the lack of decent cooling to the rear (solid) disc causes heat problems on tracks depending on your pads.

My OEM pads wore out rear first, as did EBC Greenstuff V4.

Ferodo DS2500s wore out front first, and now I'm running DS3000 Endurance front, DS2500 rear.

The DS3000 Endurances are the best so far in keeping deposits off the front discs.

I go through about two sets of front pads for every set of rears...

I would be amazed if ducting would significantly change that ratio. I am not ducted, but have pulled the dust shields for better cooling.

50/50 weight balance has little to do with it, as when you are on the brakes aggressively, you are getting a huge weight transfer onto the front wheels.

I would check out your braking system completely if you are wearing your rears quicker than your fronts. Perhaps your rears are dragging?

I get even wear front and back (no ducting).
