Buttonwillow times?
Never driven an Elise, but I've had a few Lotus' and they've all been the best handling cars I've ever driven... 'til I got my S. 
That said, even at 55 less HP, the Elise has a power/weight advantage over our car that should give it a pretty good edge.

there was no STi when i was there. There were 7 GT3's, 2 GT2's, a 997, an E46 M3 and a 360. This was my private group so I am quite sure your friend wasn't there.
