Coilover or no?
So I've been doing a lot of reading on here about coilovers and seem to be getting very mixed views on what people think about doing so. I've been reading anywhere from... Spend $3000 if you want something better than stock to don't buy any coilovers and leave the car stock cause it is perfect. I've been looking into the Megan track version coilovers and people seem to be saying it's a waste.
So here's my question...
Would it be better to just take the money spent on coilovers to buy chassis stiffening parts such as strut bars, anti-roll bars, cross-brace, etc. and keep the stock shock/damper setup or purchase the coilovers (such as Megan's) cause they will be worth it????

I'm in the same situation. However I've been fortunate enough to have meet MaxRev, and from him along with many folks here. I'll be driving my AP1 set up till I begin to drive beyond their capabilities. But I've found that changing out the car in stages to assist me in my driving style.
My first plan for me is to change out the OEM Brakes, brake fluid, and tires.
I don't plan on going with CO till later.

take your pick.
Stick with stock.
HPDEs are never a waste of money. Mods can be, but that doesn't mean they aren't. I hated the way the S2000 handled stock. Recovery from slides was difficult with all the body roll and on/off nature of the S02s made pushing it to the limit far more nervy than it should've been.
The weakest link in the car is definitely you. No offense intended. Get to an HPDE and figure out what the weakest link of the car is based on your own driving skills. Note your biggest complaints that you think are interfering with your ability to go fast, then upgrade that part. Most likely your biggest complaint will be the brakes first, suspension second, engine third.
In terms of suspension, I've been able to get a hell of a lot out of a set of $1500 Tein RAs (not new) and a primitive Saner front sway bar.

I haven't really driven an AP1 but I have an AP2 and it's none of the things you
mentioned. The car is totally predictable and so far hasn't surprised me. I still have
yet to take it to an auto x but driving it on backroads is awesome and can see why
people recommend driving it in stock form..
Someone will always be faster so you can never learn enough. schools, track days and
auto x's will only improve your ability to drive faster and safer..
