Default Consumables cost in track car

I'm trying to put together a budget so I could have an average "cost" of a weekend that includes everything, like half a set of brake pads, and 1/4 of tires. If you guys could let me know how many sessions you're typically getting out of wear items, that would help me out tremendously. So far I've got two HPDE weekends under my belt, but that was in my Boss 302, not my S2000. I'm selling the Boss and making the S2K the track car now.

How many (30min) sessions or track weekends do the following items last?
  1. Brake pads (with or without BBK)
  2. Brake rotors
  3. Tires (street, r-compound, or slick)

Is there anything else that I should consider as a wear item? Thanks for any input.

Isn't this totally dependent on the track?

For example here in Greece we have a racetrack that goes through brake pads and rotors very fast. (And with Carbotechs XP10 i will need a pair of rotors for every 2 pairs of pads if that's of any help)

On the other hand we have another one, lot longer and lot quicker which is very brake friendly!

I also consider engine oil to be a track consumable as my AP1 does burn some more when i track it and i always have that as a cost.

Brake fluids should be changed often also if the temp goes very high. They tend to lose their true attributes after exceeding their opt temp.

Also, in my opinion, your lucky as far as tire wear goes because the S2000 does wear all four tires evenly.

I track at VIR, and I think it's hard on brakes. After the back straight the car will need to go from around 120 to 40, and 115 to 40 on the front straight. Keeping that in mind, I will probably plan on a little higher than usual brake usage. I'll also be sure to budget oil changes.

A big portion depends on how you drive and how fast you are. When I started my pads lasted longer and my rotors didn't crack.

For me it got to the point where I was lucky if a set of XP10s in the front would last me 8 20 minute sessions and my rotors lasted me 12 20 minute sessions. Then I switched to a BBK and my first set of pads are still above 75% and they have 16 20 minute sessions and the rotors dont even have micro cracks on them.

Its hard for me to say how many sessions the tires last because they are less consumable. RS3 lasted me about 9 months which was over 50 20 minute sessions + autocrossing occasionally and driving to and from the track, but not daily driving.

I'd plan on at least 2 sets of tires for the year and about 6 sets of front pads and probably 4 sets of front rotors.

Thank you very much. After reading about BBK's, it seemed like they would be an excellent way to keep costs down. Seems much easier to justify the initial cost of the BBK after reading that. I'm also glad to hear the RS-3's last that long as that's what I currently have on the car.

Stoptech BBK is the best mod I ever did for my S2000, had to buy new wheels though so I went with the cheapest I could find. Amazon has TSW Nurburgrings for like $180 each with free shipping and no tax. They are ugly as hell but they work fine.

Also, if you want your tires to wear well make sure you have a good alignment and rotate them. The outside edge will wear quick if you don't have a lot of camber. And the rears will wear faster than the fronts.

Full XP10s (front) lasts at most 5 sessions at VIR for me. I don't have brake ducts yet, but ducts should really help with pad life. I'm in the camp that thinks a BBK isn't necessary. I don't (never have) crack rotors, but I also look like a fool driving around the paddock for 10-15mins.

I am really hard on brakes and rotors for some reason. I am lucky if a set of pads and rotors lasts a weekend. Maybe I should drive around the paddock letting them cool down more. Thats on a car with no ducts, they last longer with ducts.

Are you guys burning through rear pads/rotors as fast as the fronts?
