Thanks, Mike. I think I'm ok. You saw the rotors I had taken off, and you said they actually aren't so bad, so they should get me through Tuesday's track day. I have a spare good one that I'll bring, and I've ordered a couple of OEM ones form H & A.

Yeah, changing rotors is so easy (if you can get the screws holding them in off) that I always take spare rotors to track days.

See you guys on Tuesday.

Is there some sort of "bedding" process one is supposed to do for new rotors, analogous to the bedding of new brake pads?
New rotor's should be bedded in with old pad's if possible simular to the way you would bed the pad's.

One thing to think about. I have heard that you want to run new rotors on the street for a week or so before hitting the track. This has nothing to do with the pad/rotor bedding in process. Rather, you want the rotor to undergo several moderate heating and cooling cycles before nailing it at the track. I run the G3000 rotors with XP8s and have not had any problems although I have the little hairline heat/stress cracks.

With the WRX (which is woefully underbraked compared to the S2000), a vender with strong ties to carbotech was telling me about how he was getting complaints about a certain brand of rotor. It seems that if the rotor was driven moderately on the street before going to the track the rotor would last for a long time. If the rotor was just bedded in and than run on the track it would crack and self destruct.

Well, I got through the track day without problems with the old rotors, but I just swapped the street pads and tires back on, and the cracks on the right front rotor have opened up a lot more. I don't think I'll be doing another track day on these puppies.

Were the matching front rotors, e.g., both OEM?

I had replaced the OEM rotors which came with the car, when they were quite heat cracked from the track. I used non-OEM rotors from the S2ki marketplace to replace them. When one of these cracked all the way through prematurely, I took both off and re-installed the old OEM rotors I had take off.

I have ordered two new OEM front rotors, which I will put on when they arrive.

I don't quite agree with that. I don't have much experience on S2000 rotors but from my miata experience, the cheap Brembo replacement rotors easily got warped even when brand new and with just street driving. On the other hand, the Mazda OEM rotors I used never warp even with heavy track use, and even when they were below minimum thickness.
