how quickly a fun day at the track becomes a shitty day

(probably an ancient repost, but whatever)

anybody know what kind of car he's driving? judging by the steering wheel, I'm guessing a recent Mustang, or a Vette?

I can't view the vid right now but if it's the one where he's giving a running commentary, rolls the car off track to the right and yells "" when the window breaks, it's a Subaru Legacy, and it's an old clip, maybe 4 years now...

Yeah, this is the same clip - old as hell and still makes me squirm to watch it cuz he doesn't really seem to mess up all THAT bad and still rolls it.

Dude, tritium_pie - I love the golf cart drift video in your sig. That's awesome.

Wow. I hadn't seen this before and it just gave me chills. I've gotten a little sideways on the uphill at LRP but I can't understand how he rolled it...

Personally, it looked like he was a little to slow with the countersteer and he might have lifted.

The video has been analyzed to death on the interrnet boards. The Subaru Legacy driver admits to screwing up and wanted others to benefit from his mistake, so he posted the video. That was very generous of him. The consensus is that he went in hot and a little early, didn't countersteer soon enough or with enough lock and he may have lifted. Let this be a lesson for all of us that play on the track, unless you're Schumacher, at some point you run out of talent when you need it most.

The car rolled because he slid off sideways and his wheels dug into the soft soil. I've seen this happen to other cars too, so stay on the pavement or go off straight if you have the choice.

And drive as straight as you can to get back up on the track. I have seen over and over people flying off the track in Turn 8 at The Glen because they just went in too hot. There is a ton of grass run off area and this simple error can be fixed very easy. But instead of running the grass they panic and steer to get back on the track in a hurry. And believe me, as soon as the front tires take the input; they get just what they wanted and then some. They fly right back onto the track, cross the track and stuff the car headfirst into the Armco on the opposite side.

Yeah, the first thing I noticed was that he's a "shuffle-steerer". That's great for the street (keeps your arms out of the path of a potential air bag deployment), but is just too slow for the track. I think that was definitely a contributing factor in his failure to add enough opposite lock.
