Default Crazy tire 'test drive' idea

Do you think we could get someone (TireRack? another sponsor?) to buy a couple of sets of take-off stock wheels, mount a couple of sets of different R compound tires, and bring them to, say, S2KDays Thunderhill event? They could 'rent' them for a session at a time to those of us who would like to try out various tires but don't have extra sets of wheels or trailers to carry them in.

Totally crazy, or possible? What would they have to charge to break even? Would you use this service if someone provided it?

Thanks,

Ted

Or you could look up a back issue of Grassroots Motorsports when they tested all the race tires. Granted they tested with a ITB GTi, it will give you some good insight into the different tires.

SoloVR6,

yes, GRM has pretty good test results. You can also read descriptive reviews of many tires right here, with the bonus that they're reviewed on the S2000.

If I were trying to decide which tires to buy, that would be very helpful.

My position is that I don't plan to buy track tires, as I have no extra wheels, no place to put them if I bought them, and no way to transport them if I found storage space. I would like to get the experience of trying R compound tires on my S2000 at the track. I'm sure there are others in the same position, as well as those who would like more hands on evaluation to make a buying decision.

yu888,

maybe we can talk 'em into it!

Thanks,

Ted

Tedster, a possible add to that. We pitch in and "rent" the tires to a good driver and then compare the track times. Would also like to see a track time comparison between OEM SO2's and S03's PP (225's and 245's).

statueman,

I like you idea. It might be a totally different deal, in fact. Some kind of organized test of different tires on the same stock S2000, same driver, around Thunderhill and maybe an autocross course, slalom, and skid pad.

I'm interested + 1. Either weekend sounds good to me. We can catch the caravan on the way up.
