Default Cut the tool well

My S2000 is track only car and I am thinking of shaving cutting the tool Well and riveting a flat sheet of aluminum on top. The well does not look structural any thought?

generally anything in front/behind the respective shock towers isn't hugely structural.

I just came across this and am curious, is anybody running in any NASA series (like Honda Challenge) running like this?

I'm pretty sure a semi-tube frame like that would knock you out of Honda Challenge and most of the standard series run by S2000 race cars. Most of the rule books say mods aren't allowed unless specifically stated in the rules. If there's any possibility you may race your S2000 in the future it pays to read and understand the SCCA and/or NASA rules and even ask for clarification about mods before you do them. It sucks to have to remove expensive go-fast parts to make your car legal for racing or TT, or worse yet sell your street/HPDE S2000 and start over.

just cut it out and cover it. it won't save that much weight but the "box" is just there to fit a flat tire.

It also gives you some more room to get creative with exhaust and aero options.

Thanks for the input. I wasn't thinking as extreme as that cutout, or the semi-tube frame build, but rather just the tool well. And yes I was thinking of the potential aero benefit from cleaning up the underside.
