Data logger question
Trying to decide which one to buy...
Any body here using G2Extreme, Traqmate, or have had experience with both? how do you like it, input is much appreicated.
Try it with TrackVision data video merger?

I have the G2X. It works.
I think the G2X and the DL1 are a little bit more high-powered than the Traqmate, but I haven't really looked in to it all that much, since I already have one.

Try the demos from all three, look at how detailed the software will let you get into the data, decide your priorites (display, ease of use for the software. depth of analysis in the software software, ease/cost to add inputs, size, cost, etc..), and what you want to hook up to it. They all have advantages depending on your priorities.
If you search for G2X and DL1, you'll see many other posts on the subject.
I used the predictive lap timer feature of the DASH1 (the add on display for the DL1) for the first time this weekend, and that's a pretty cool feature (and addictive) that I've not seen on anything else.
Mike, I forget, does the G2X have a "time slip" variable?

I have a DL1 which you are welcome to try out since I'm no longer in running form. Just let me know when you want to use it and bring a 128MB or other CF card with you cleanly formatted with plain old FAT. You can download the software from race-technology.com, plug in your CF card from the day and happily pour over your data. I'll even give you a copy of my data from July 3rd for you to compare with.
I'm located in Oshawa so you have to pass my place on the way to Mosport anyway. Try before you buy. The DL1 is really sweet, runs about $1000 and can be had from jlucas who is both very knowledgeable about them but also very helpful.

Just this spring Racepak released a major software/firmware update that was designed to work with Trackvision. It did add some new channels.
If you really get into the G2X you can use the "math channels" to create all sorts of things.
It does have some quirks, though. For instance, it doesn't always automatically find the right track, and comparing data from different sessions is more of a PITA compared to comparing different laps from the same session. That's not to say you can't do it, but the software is all set up to compare within a session rather than, for instance, the fast laps from all the sessions of the day.

I would stay away from the TraqMate until they upgrade the software to make segmentation analysis better. Good hardware, average software at this point (but the software is a work in progress so it will get better).

What's a "time slip" variable?
One is time slip in seconds which is very usefully for looking at time gained or lost when looking at a whole lap, which helps you hone in on the areas to look at in more detail.

The other is time slip % which is very usefully when looking at time gained or lost looking a detailed area like a specific sector .

In either case it is calculated based on the best theoretical lap (all the fast sectors combined).
Edit: PS. Trackvision works really good (currently better that R-T's optional in-house software video overlay) and it works with all of the major data logger products including all the ones discussed in this thread.
