I think it's for safety. If a car wrecks and a worker has to reach in and turn the steering wheel to get it off a wall or to get ready to tow and can't because the steering lock is active...

It's actually a very easy job to pull the lock apart and remove the deadbolt itself, if you wanted to do it that way.

Speed, how did you access the lock and remove the bolts to remove it? That's why I just drilled out the gold cover.

Rob, which bolts are you referring to? Once the tiny roll pin is removed, the lock cylinder simply slid out, thus allowing the dead bolt to be be dropped downwards.

I'm talking about the bolts that hold the ignition key & lock in place. How did you access the bolts to remove the unit before you started to work on it?

I'm going to try it the robrob way today. It initially confused me before I realized the second pic was from Strat (I was looking for the drill hole in the brass cover).

I updated the website and my posts in this thread to make the epoxy method easier to understand.

Those bolts are one time use bolts and you have to drill them out by design.

Thanks Strat, I just noticed you had already answered my question in your first post of this thread.

They come out easy without drilling, punch and hammer.

Yeah, I did mine a year ago and don't remember exactly, just remember that I didn't have to drill any bolts out...
