Default DriftBox Review

Guys, I just finished doing some testing of the Racelogic DriftBox & PerformanceBox at a recent VIR track event.

For hard core track guys, I still prefer a more focused system like the DL1 but I'm sure for some of you a DriftBox or PerformanceBox might be just the ticket. Bang for the buck is pretty high on the PerformanceBox.

Let me know if you have questions.

GPS only, no accelerometers?
Hmm, might work well in a motorcycle too...

The car in those examples is my C5Z06 street car with sticky tires. I can NOT go flat through 10 in that car, nor would I attempt it in a street car. I see a minimum speed of 85-86 on a good lap through 10 in this car. Keep in mind we are talking real GPS speed here. My speedo reads at least 5mph above that.

With some Hondas you don't have to lift but you need to get the line just right; I believe thats the discussion I had with John. Unfortunately I have not been to VIR with a Prelude/Civic SI/TL since I started using GPS data acquisition and I never had the chance to race a S2000 there. With a DL1 you could log TPS and truly know if you were flat on the throttle. DB & PB do not have any input capability.

Elistan, for a motorcycle you definitely want a GPS system (look at the factory AMA Superbike team) so you can get good speed & position readings -- although I don't think it has to be only GPS, you just don't use the lateral accelerometer readings if it has one. A DB needs to be level, so a PB would be the choice between those 2 for motorcycles. You can even use a remote antenna with it so you can put the main unit where ever you want (i.e. you have options besides just using the suction cup mount).
