There are plenty of cars that have to run higher-than-normal amounts of oil to prevent starvation on the autocross course, with the C4 Corvette being a prime example.

The losses incurred driving of the oil pump are one factor, the losses due to the crank whipping through a pool of oil are another separate one. In high rpm situations windage losses can be significant. "Knife-edging" a crankshaft is an old racer's trick done not just for lightening, but to minimize this loss.

The ability to reducing or eliminating windage with a dry sump presents a concrete performance advantage.

Moroso has come out with a bunch of new dry sump kits for HONDA engines...of course not for F series.

A good one with one way trap doors does.

Plus, if you will be racing with us, you will be running on RA1's and therefore have less g forces anyways.

A few Q's:

How much vacuum will the pump intend to pull? Will an adjustable vacuum relief valve be needed on the valvecover or on a dedicated oil vapor canister?

Are you intending to drive the pump off a V-belt or a cog system, and can it be overdriven with your choice of pullies?

How big of a resevoir tank will be needed for the intedned flow? Will it be a Patterson-like anti-foam, antibubble, swirl generator type?

A couple of friends and I are brainstorming a motor we may be building soon.

Thanks!

I'd be interested in the baffled pan.

Had a look on Spoon & King sites - but only found baffled sumps.

I've been in contact with the guy here in the UK that's dry sumped the F20C powered westfield (clubman/Lotus 7 ) as I'm working on a similar project - here's the only photo I could find that shows anything of the dry sump system:

The dry sump tank is in the foreground. The sump came from Race Engine Design for GBP 1000 +VAT (UK sales tax @ 17.5%)

From reports I've heard it works very well

If you're considering a group buy - please let me know

PS - anybody have a 'spare' gearshift (stickshift) lever they want to sell - as I'm trying to rebuild a 'bare' gearbox

Steve

I will have pictures of my baffles and trap doors shortly after sema.

Price is going to be around $300 plus your good working oil pan.
