Thanks for a fun day at Buttonwillow folks. I had a good time. I decided not to run my fourth run group and head home since it was the wife's Bday and hse had said it was alright I go and drive. When I got off to fill up at the next exit, I had a VERY loud noise coming from my brakes. I figured I was down to the wear indicator on the pads.
When I got off at Kettleman, the 'BRAKE" light came on, yet my E-brake handle was down. Yup, brakes were definitly gone. By down shifting ealry and using the E-brake, i made it home to Fresno. This morning I put the car on stands and took off the wheel. Look what I found:
A lot of brake dust on the wheel and NO PAD left on any of the front pads. Swapped them out for the mew ones I had ordered after the past track day with SV. When they recommend 5mm of pads left, 5mm is what they mean. I used all of it.
And yes, the dark area on the caliper is burned paint.
I cooked my brakes the first time I went to the track as well. Nothing like knowing where your brake markers are, but not knowing exactly how much your brakes are going to slow you down.
Vent your brakes, gentlemen, and consider your burnt paint hardcore.
I was using Motol 600. I am switching to Wilwood 600 which has a higher wet boiling point. I am planning on putting a layer of bbq high temp before I repaint with the hight temp caliper paint (again).
