I'm entered in the Tire Rack Solo 2 National Tour next week 2/21/2004 in Fort Myers Florida. I noticed almost every car is running on Hoosiers but the 04 S doesn't have the best sizes available from the Hoosiers new A3S04 or last years A3S03. The new Kuhmo 710 is even worse so I'm force to use victoracers, 225 front & 255 rear. I understand these tires are alot faster than victoracers. My question is open to debate. Is it fair to put the 04 in A stock on victoracers. Or what tire size would make the 04 more competitive, 225 front and 245 rear on last years A3S03 like the 00 to 03 car.

Classing decisions are made irrespective to tire availablility and suitability. They are made soley on the performance potential of the car prepped to the limit of the class with tires assumed to be equal.
My Impreza 2.5RS is in G Stock. No suitable Hoosier tires exist. Its still a G Stock car even though the top GS cars can fit Hoosier tires on them.
Is the SAC supposed to adjust every car's class every year based on tire availability in each brand and each brand's performance relative to the other brands? That's crazy.

Both A3S03 and A3S04 are/will be available in 225/45/17, 245/40/17, and 275/40/17. If these sizes aren't available thru TireRack yet, check with Hoosier Tom at MidAtlantic Motorsports

As for being classed fairly, there are only 10-15 cars on the planet that are classed "fairly" in stock when judged by their owners. For everyone else, life is not fair- get used to it

Sorry, after reading my first post it is a little confusing. What I meant to say is since the best tire sizes 225 and 255 are not available for the 04 S2000 is it fair to approve those tires for a class, unless every car can get them since the better tires are such an advantage. I realize this is an almost impossible situation since some classes have so many cars. There is a rule about tires being legal if they are available in a few different sizes, so this discussion must have already been dealt with by the SCCA, but I don't think it's fair. The main reason I bought an S2000 is because it was the dominant car in it's class and B stock was the biggest class and driver skill would have been the deciding factor on the track. I know it sounds like I'm whining but, Waaaaaaaaa! Does anyone with an 04 have any suggestions on the best setup to be competitive at the national level.

Change your registeration to SM2 they need help making a class if AS isn't appealing. And if you do that then you can run the Old S2000 wheels and tires. So if you'd like to try it out and run SM2 on my Wheels and tires (new S04's) we could arrange it. I only own 2 of them so I can't fully make the offer without talking to my Co-driver but I think he'd be alright with it maybe for a couple of dollars though.
Besides Hoosier tom's site has the 225 and 245 in autox compound, but the 255 is a road race compound, which isn't terribly bad on a nice long course like at FM and a nice cluthc dump on the line with a co-driver you shouldn't have any problem with getting them up to temp. IMHO the car needs taller gearing so how about running a 245 front and a 275 rear. Does it clear?

You just plain can't get R compound tires for a Chrysler Crossfire which is Classed in DS. It has 19inch rear wheels and no one makes a 19 inch R compound. Should this car get moved to HS because it can't get race tires. NOPE. Same boat for the new elise and new Corvette, No r compounds for them.

Hi Ian, I mentioned those sizes to Hoosier Bob and he got all mad and said no 225 & 245. But I agree with you. I think a 245 & 275 on the 04 would be amazing. Are there any tire experts out there with an opinion. Would a 245 fit on a 7 inch wheel.

I know the old A3S03 in 245/40/17 fit a 17x7 wheel, that's what the DS IS300 guys used to run. The new tire is supposed to be wider, the question is how much?
