I'm eyeing a sweet set of 3.80 gears so I can go even faster than stock gearing! [edit: Just want to make sure everyone knows that last sentence is a joke]
You laugh, but I'm currently debating between 3.9 or 3.63's. My 23.5in tall slicks are only good for about 62mph in 2nd with the 4.1 final drive. I've got an entirely different use case, for sure, though.
Can you even get the 3.63's any more?
I thought that was a gear for a car(forget which car) sold overseas and not here in the states.

They're available through mazdaspeed motorsports. From what I've read, they were used on a late-70's 626, and more recently the australian market version of the mazdaspeed miata.

Aozora- in terms of shifting points and duration of gears your video's arent all that different. You dont seem to be kept short in any area's and in most cases you are just higher in the revs which in theory should be better as thats where the power is. Could the losses in time be due to your tyres getting older? I would imagine these comparisons are made using the same tyre but just at different courses in its life. IIRC you are on star specs, are they known for loses in time over tyre age? I have read that Rs3 suffer from this a lot, so im just wondering if that might be your problem and not the gearing.

Just comparing the first ~30 seconds or so, there's two additional upshifts required with the 4.44s, and after the second one he's bogging in 4th where with the 4.10s he's in the powerband in 3rd. Then he has to bang off two downshifts with the 4.44s vs. just one with the 4.10s (coulda skipped 3rd and just gone from 4th to 2nd, though). I see a few tenths in that segment, easily.

Nope, I thought about tyres and even bought a fresh set but still can't match (Even went from Z1s to Z2s!) but I still can't regain the time.
I think I'll go back to 4.1s - no matter how I look at it, on track 4.1s just seem more "compatible".

If I was doing AutoX however, it'd be different but... I'm not ahha.

I saw this for sale and thought it was kinda... interesting, 5.1 FD anyone?

That 5.10 gearing might work great for 1/8 mile drag racing

I'm currently in the process of gathering some data but given my S13 experience... 4.77s will be limiter bouncing down the PI straight :/

Oddly at my local track comparing up and downshifts, 4.77s actually have 4 less shifts than my current 4.44s... But almost twice as many as 4.1s.

What about when you make the shift to R compound tyres? Will the 4.44 be better suited because you should be carrying more speed throughout the track?
