I've got an upcoming event that requires a 2.5 lb fire extinguisher be installed "within reach" of the driver. Any recommendations of mounting points/extinguishers (am leaning towards Safecraft).

I have mine mounted on the cross beam just infront of the drivers seat on the floor. Even with my harness tight i can reach the latch and trip the bottle.

Good Idea. I didn't think of that. Did you have the bottle mount welded onto the cross beam or did you drill all the way through the beam and the floorpan to bolt it on?

I used a number of sheet metal screws.

With the passenger seat removed, I bolt my 2.5 pounder into the left-front seatbolt hole using the seatbolt, within easy reach. Although it's one bolt, it seems to be very strong and secure as it is lying flat and and snug up against the transmission tunnel (and well below head level for extra safety).

I'm surprised to hear these fire extinguishers aren't mounted on the a-pillar, as far away from the driver on the passenger side?

Honestly, just sit in your car with harnesses latched and put the piece where you feel most comfortable reaching for, it's different for every person but keep in mind if you arm happens to break and so on in case of an emergency.
