Default First time I ever autocrossed

This was my first time I've ever gone to autocross and just was wondering if my times are any good compared to others there
obviously my first few runs I was taking it easy and gradually went faster with each run

My last run would've been fastest but my tires were gettin' pretty warm and I almost missed a gate

I'm just curious if my times are worth me pursuing autocross
thanks for any opinions/advice

I'm joshua hyde on the link

the runs aren't numbered correctly either and they're missing a time but you get the main idea

I didn't look at the times, because for your first time out there, you should not even be paying attention to the times. Autocross has a huge learning curve, and your first few events are pretty much meaningless for use in measuring raw talent. If you enjoyed it, you should return. If you hated every second of it, I wouldn't recommend going back. So, did you have fun?!

If you stick with it and feel you're getting good, have one of the local experts drive the car a couple of times. That will help determine if it's time to start making modifications or if you need to work on the driver side of things first. The great thing about the S is that it's a fun car to drive right out of the box. You won't be able to beat the cars modified to the limit of the rules but you can figure out whether the loose nut behind the wheel is the limiting factor...

Here is a plug for you.

The best way to get better is seat time. There are very few naturals out there.

Josuha-

Looks like you are from the Chicago / Milwaukee area. There are a lot of talented s2k drivers in this area. Most don't runn with Salt Creek- something about the concrete walls at the Geneva Speedway

One way to learn about the car & it's abilities would be to head out to an event sponsored by these clubs:

Tri-State Sports Car Club
Chicago Region SCCA
Miwaukee Region SCCA
Wisconsin Autocrossers

And a schedule of everything happening in our area here.

At those events you will find many National tropying autocrossers and some National Champions driving s2000's. Most of them troll around on this site as well

As everyone has said: have fun first, don't mod your car- work on the driver, & ask for help! If you are overly concerned about times or getting a wooden plaque- the fun factor will drop.

Hey Juliann,

Whats the story with the Evo driving school in Chicago, lot of people going out of state for them, now.

I was at the meet with RED04S2k and had invited him to Salt Creek because, of seat time. Although the Lake Geneva site may be a brash, I agree in a big way.

I think many people are turned off by these larger clubs, I can't get anyone to go with me to SCCA events anymore, because of how over crowded they are.

Many people who go out there dont get to go every weekend., maybe once every couple of months.

Prime example, was an event I went to with Milwaukee SCCA, a month back.

I got 5 runs in and worked the course for over 2 1/2 hours.
Seat time is what I want, you dont get it with the bigger clubs anymore.

WAI was a much more laid back experience.

Tristate was the first club I ever autox'd in, good size crowd, not over crowded, but the event sites are far generally for the more wisconsin people and honestly many people are turned off by how competitive the atmosphere is.

I was intimidated my first few events.

But the big thing is seat time, and fair work assignments.
The smaller clubs offer a lot more friendly atmosphere and more driving.
