First track day in S2000
So my AP1 got a taste of the track for the first time. I only made two timed laps on crap tires. The fronts are OEM I believe, but have a lot of negative camber wear. The rears are some kind of Falkens (Not azenis). In the dry, the fronts grip more than the rears, but it is still only good for .9g at best. It also downpoured about 15min before I got there, and continued to randomly sprinkle for the rest of the day. I showed up towards the end, and the event coordinator allowed me a couple laps because I frequent the events in my 240 and always pay promptly. Work prevented me from attending the whole event.
The car was definitely oversteer happy, but I feel like it is going to be really good on Direzzas. It is very stable under transition, even while braking in the middle of transition (I did it just to see). On the chicane of our course, you really have to barrel into it and brake as you are coming to the apex of the left hander. Then, you have to pray for grip and hope you don't understeer off. I found this while tracking my 240sx, and other Pbox owners agree. Between slow and fast drivers, that is a very noticable area even from the sidelines.
I did a 1:05 flat. For comparison, my 240sx does 57.4 in the dry...
This is the layout:

It is run clockwise.

On a sidenote, I pulled the valvecover Sunday after some additional hard street driving/touring later Saturday night and I see no inner retainer wall on any of the valve retainers. The engine has 93k on it, so I am stoked. I expected since the previous owner bought it turbocharged, somebody would have had a mechanical overrev. I guess not...
I should have Direzzas next event. I think I'll also need to at least bleed the brakes with Valvoline synthetic and possibly something for brake pads... Carbotechs or Cobalt frictions most likely...
