[QUOTE=PedalFaster,Dec 21 2009, 09:48 AM]In other news, I'm thinking about moving this thread out of R&C to Naturally Aspirated, as it never had much to do with R&C to start off with.

You're approaching this like it's something personal when it's not. I have nothing against people who aren't forum regulars posting here. Having said that, people who are interested in motor swaps and the like tend to post in forums like S2000 Talk and Naturally Aspirated. People who are interested in tracking or autocrossing tend to post in Racing and Competition. When most of the replies to a post in Racing and Competition come from people who don't usually post here, that suggests to me that the thread may be in the wrong place.

I guess the fact the car is being built by HPD (Honda Performance Development), the part of Honda that builds supports and designs its race cars and engines (like the ALMS car) some people thought it belonged in here.
That's a fair statement, which is why I asked for peoples' opinions rather than unilaterally moving the thread.

[QUOTE=BrianZ,Dec 21 2009, 10:20 AM]I just asked a question, I was trying to clarify it.

Maybe I can make it a little more focused... (unless I'm grossly mistaken on the rules)

Wouldn't this swap, if properly done, be SSM legal? I seem to remember civic hatch's running ITR motors in SM.

Edit: saw the previous talk about XP... I didn't realize I missed that small chuck of the thread as I followed it. Oh well, wishful thinking that this swap might actually become common in autocross as the cars and engines get cheaper in the future.

would be pretty amazing if honda could put the indy motor in there... Questions regarding the J series of motors. SOHC, why not dual? What is the motor's potential with Forced induction? This whole thread (and it's current location) begs the question what awesome race (not drag, not street, race like LM, GT, F1, Indy, rally) motor do you think would fit in an S2k? What about an unrestricted Super GT NSX motor?

I don't think a NSX motor would fit, as it is a 90 degree V6, vs the J, which is a 60 degree V6 and isn't as wide.

I'll gladly take my comments elsewhere if someone will point me in the right direction.

FWIW I think a J swap would be a LOT more reliable than any FI setup for the track. I also think the weight difference between this and your average FI setup would be minimal. Turbos and blowers and manifolds and all the associated running gear aren't light.

Krazik, I've no doubt that your setup was abused and performed well, but I've rebuilt way too many FI motors to even consider going that route myself. Not to mention to do it right, you're talking a $6k tab just in hardware, unless you piece together something used, and then all the associated installation and tuning costs. To do it right you're probably talking $8k or so when all said and done.

The J swap should be achievable for less than $5k or so (assuming you go with one of the lesser 3.5 motors), including custom parts costs. What I'd like to do is develop a kit that would make this a shadetree endeavor, like what HAsport does, and make that more of a $3k swap.

I would like to see it stay. I think it is relevant because it is HPD related and have been actively following it. I think it would get lost in Car Talk. I don't want to go find it especially if the search is the way it is.

I'd swap it in a heartbeat at 5K cost. <3
