Default Front wheel size for track

I am debating between using an SSR type C RS 17x8 48mm (225/45-17) vs 17x9 55mm (255/40-17) for the front wheel with the 17x9 55mm rear (255/40-17).

Please help me out with some questions regarding what fender modifications are necessary for the 17x9 front. Also, what real advantage will the 17x9 have over the 17x8 with the smaller tire?

Thanks.

The question you need to ask is "what are the cool kids doing"...
I am running 17x8.5's on all corners they are volk 17x9 but are not really 9 wide...

as for mods you may need to roll the fender some but its kinda hard to say now knowing your ride height or alignment settings....

some of the really cool kids are running 18/10's and bigger but they have more inner fender mods and such....
the 275 tire I run had me beat the hell out of the inner fender and I am not using fender liners....

hope this helps with the confusion...

forgot to add grip will be all different with a non stagger setup...
lots of people like it better non stagger but you will have to play with swaybars and springs...
i am not running a rear bar and have mugen front bar with 900 lb front and 950 lb rear springs...

So Volk 17x9 wheels aren't really 17x9?

The Volk CE28N wheels we are talking about were sold as 17"X9" wheels.

If you take a tape and measure the distance between the tire bead mounting surfaces on the wheel you will discover that they are 8.5" apart and not 9".

However, They are 9" wide if you measure the outside distance (outside surface to outside surface) of the rim.

But what use is that? Tires dont mount to the outside surface.

The 10" CCW wheels i have indeed measure 10" between the tire bead surfaces.

The 9" CCW wheels i have also measure 9" between the tire bead surfaces.

Oh, that pisses me off! I spent last season trying to get a pair of CE28n Volks just to find out now that my stock rear wheels may be the same width!?!

ARRRRRG!

For the record, I got tired of waiting for the Volks and got 4x AP2 rears.

Anyone have the inner mounting surface distance of the AP2 wheels handy?
