Default harness mounting?

considering getting sparco rev seat. need harnesses. just a 4 point.

where r u guys mounting your harness WITHOUT adding a roll bar or cage and NOT mounting it to the floor?

I don't mind gutting my car from the seats back to expose the factory metal roll hoops, if necessary. Just need some ideas...

Any type of harness without a rollbar or cage is highly discouraged. You'll lose your head in a rollover. The stock belts are all you should be using with the factory roll hoops. Really.

That being said, I'm assuming you're doing this for show purposes; PM Rick Hesel as he has just finished doing the same thing albeit with a 6 point harness.

Talk to aaron bitterman (aaron@speedventures.net) he has a kit that will allow you to mount a harness w/o an aftermarket roll bar.

Laugh away. Don't use a racing harness with the stock roll hoops. You will do more damage to yourself in the event of an accident. Do a search, there's been a few threads discussing this issue and detailing why it's a bad idea.

Ludedude is right about a harness w/ stock roll hoops. Just be warned that if you roll and have stock hoop w/ a harness, you've pretty much guaranteed to hurt yourself significantly (neck) or possibly kill yourself.

Does anyone have any evidence for believing that it's more dangerous to have a harness with the stock roll hoops, or is this all pure conjecture?

Assuming that a seat and rails (sparco or other) will lower the seating position 2-3 inches and drop my helmet below the roll hoops and windshield frame, I gotta believe I'm far safer in a rollover, or any accident, with seat/harness than with the stock seat/belts. I'm 5'11". (My conjecture is better than yours)

its not exactly something that needs a roll over to prove. Sit in the seat and see. Is your head below the roll hoops? Then run a peice of wood between the top of the window frame and the roll hoop. Are you still under it? If you aren't under it w/ some room to spare, its your head thats gonna be holding the car up when you're upside down.

Its just something to consider. You can chose to ignore it, I did for otc as I had no choice but to run the stock bars to fit the hard top. Its a calculated risk, but -if- you go shiney side down, you're gonna get hurt.
