****edit**** Anyway to weld mugen header while it is on the car? the hole is only about a 1mm circle hole. (pics below)
My header (not stock) has a small leak at one of the welds about 4" from the bottom of it....(i could feel it and hear it under the car).
I just had my VAFC dyno tuned for this thing...ran it one test day and now it has a leak. I don't want to switch back to my stock header but I am not sure I can get this thing taken care of before my first race.
anyway.... any problems with running it that way if i have to for a weekend? not sure what happens if the hole gets bigger.... i am pretty sure it is not down where it is has turned into just 1 pipe... i think it is still 4-2-1
The header leak will cost you power just from the exhaust gas flow changes. Additionally, it will make the computer think you're running lean at part throttle, which willl probably up your long term fuel trim into the rich area and may affect full throttle power.
that sucks! Our first race is 10 hours from my house... don't really care to go and have troubles!
I took some pics but my computer isn't working well enough for me to upload them... it is a small circle hole.... Hopefully i can swap it out for a different one of the same brand in the next 15 days or so.....
Titanium is not particularly hard to weld. I was googling on it before to find out because I was thinking of getting some blank stock and making a custom exhaust but it didn't prove to be cost effective. Here is a page from just a quick search: http://www.timet.com/fab-p27.htm
i think it is ti... it is a mugen..... i just got it from King motorsports (i am sure they will take care of it, but I am sort of in a time crunch since i race in under 3 weeks) in late fall, but didn't even get the engine in the car until feb.... it didn't make this noise when the car was dyno'd but clearly has a hole now.
This is what Magnaflow has to say about there Ti exhaust:
The S2000 exhaust is one of our only recent problems. That motor with the high rev limiter creates so much heat, that the Titanium material cannot handle the extreme heat without over expanding.
Scot, it looks like the weld is cracked as well. If it is cracked, you'll have to remove the header and have the old weld bead ground out, and then re-welded. Stainless is not particularly hard to weld, but I would look for a skilled TIG welder to do the job.
The stainless used is fairly thin, so some care must be taken not to make the hole any bigger.
If it's just a hole, you should be able to leave the header on the car and have it welded up.
