Default Heat induced Transmission Problem

My transmission gets more difficult to downshift as the day goes on at a track day. It does not grind, it locks me out.

see video:

Has anyone had success with a different transmission fluid? There is GM MF formula, and also Pennzoil Synchromesh MTF. (Are they the same?)

My S is a high mileage car and I currently use Honda MTF. It shifts OK in normal street driving (but not as good as when new).

Thanks in advance

Jim

Synchros possibly on the way out. I had similar heat-related symptoms on our track Civic. Got progressively worse. I had tranny rebuilt and they said the synchros were nubs.

So what about the GM MF vs Pennzoil synchro? Are they the same product?

No they aren't. Pennzoil is the new formula that is actually cheaper. Get the Pennzoil if that is what.you are choosing between. I use amsoil mtf and its amazing.

I have been using redline mtf in my trans for years seems to be doing fine.
I am starting to get the grind into second if I do it too fast but other than that its still solid.

I agree. A different fluid might postpone the repair, but what you're experiencing is the teeth on the synchro are worn down. Better rev matching can help too. But sooner or later you're gonna need to fix the tranny.

I use Amsoil MTF and change every 3-4 events.

Since your car is hight mile, you could check your tranny mount and shift lever collar.

I don't think that's causing lock your shifter out by heat but, it'll affect your shift feel for sure.

just wondering, but have you tried changing out your clutch fluid? A member on here recently had the exact same problems and all was solved via clutch fluid change. Its a very easy 5 minute job, use a turkey baster to suck out all the old fluid, replace with new fluid, cap, pump clutch, and repeat till clean.
