Helmet Recommendations
I have been wondering something off and on for some months now. Since there are some helmet gurus here, I figure this is a good place to ask.
Are there some helmets that are thinner at the top than others? I have headroom issues in the majority of cars I race. My helmet seems pretty thick. It's a Simpson Super Voyager, Snell 95. It feels big. Not loose, it fits well, it just seems massive. Are there different case sizings maybe? Perhaps Snell 2000 helmets can have thinner cases or padding due to construction/material improvements? If I could gain perhaps 3/4" in headroom with a thinner helmet I'd be much more comfortable with more cars.
I must have a very tall torso. Good thing I have a car with T-tops eh? http://www.pbase.com/image/19682360

Bryan, while some manufacturers have 2 or 3 different size shells depending on the helmet size, I'm betting you'd be hard pressed to find one that would be 3/4" of an inch thinner on top. Also, considering that the EPS foam under the shell is the main impact absorbing material, I'm not sure that's where you want to be skimping. The shell itslef is only a few mm thick so that's not where the savings would come from.
Your best bet is to tryt o find a way to lower your seat to get that extra headroom.

I bought a Bieffe Predator. I really like the helmet. All metal hardware and it breaths well and is very comfortable. It is a full face helmet of course. I wouldn't skimp with a convertible car.
