so i'm in the market for a new helmet.
was thinking that i'd just get the Bell M2, but now people are telling me that (since the S2K is open) i should consider something lighter (and more aero) to avoid buffetting and neck strain - but the cost of the composites is a big step up.
suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated.

ps. how many of you actually use full contoured neck collars?

If any of you want just a basic M95 helmet for autoX PM me or send me an e-mail. A friend of mine owns a cycle shop and has over 600 helmets in stock. Last week he offered SCCA members who came through me a hell of a deal. HJC CL5 M95 open face helmets for $70 plus tax, and Bell Legacy full face M95 helmets for $80 plus tax. This applies to the stock on hand only. I bought two of the HJC's for the club to use as loaners last week and I also own two HJC's. Good autoX only helmets at a cheap price.

I was in the same situation as you...needed a helmet for the track next weekend. After doing some research and talking to some people, I decided a Bell M2 SA2000 helmet was adequate. I paid $300 and did not really see the need to pay $150 for the M2 PRO.
One thing to be careful of, I ordered my from the internet, eaded up the small size I got was a bit too small for my head so I had to send it back for a Medium. If you get a headache from wearing it for 10-15 min, get a bigger size.
I am extremely happy with the helmet, I even wear it around the house to "get use to wearing it". My wife saids I look like an "alien", big head, small body....

TFota,
They started selling the Snell SA2000 helmets end of 2000. I ordered mine from http://www.racerwholesale.com. They are good.
I think the M4 and M5 are motorcycle snell M2000 helmets.
