Default Help me pick a pad compound

I am going to snag some G-loc pads and am leaning towards the R8 all around. I track the car 3-5 times a year, autox a few times, and do 3-5k of spirited driving. I am not really looking to swap pads and rotors, but want a setup that is safe to have FUN on the track. Last pads were EBC yellows and I cooked them to the point where they were falling apart, so I am looking for a step up and don't want to regret not having done a R10/R8 combo. Any thoughts on R10 on the street? Also am I correct that I would need to swap rotors if I swap pads?

I am currently running the R12/R10 GLoc combo, and they work great on the track, and are livable on the street. They are a little noisier than your standard street pads, but in my case I bought the pre-bedded brakes and mated them with new Centric Premium rotors, the noise is minimal.

I would say you would be just fine with the R8 combo on all four corners for the intended usage you have for these pads, just expect them to be a little noisier and dust more than OEM. Also, if you are upgrading to different pads I would at a minimum have the rotors resurfaced to give them a clean surface to mate to and lay the pad material on. Alternatively buying new rotors from RockAuto or NAPA is very inexpensive, so that would be my suggestion.

this is good feedback. So it sounds as if the R10/8 would even be ok on the street? My only concern might be increased pad wear at the lower street temps. which may be even worse on the R10s. Thoughts?

I've only had the pads on for 2 track days (11 twenty minute sessions) and about 300 street miles, so I can't really comment on their longevity.

One thought that I have is that I am running a 225/255 stagger and have no plans to go with a square setup, so maybe R8 square would be a fine setup

I emailed G-Loc today and they responded pretty quick. I was originally going to go with r12/r10's but Danny recommended r16's/10's since Im using r-comps. I daily gs-1's on a bbk and since theyre g-loc as well I dont have to worry about rebedding when swapping back and forth. Shoot them an email and theyll work with you on compound.

Went R10/R8, figured I could always swap G1s in as my everyday pad if it was to much.

10/8s are a good combo. I ran them for a while and they did good. I also liked 12/10 as well for the track on street tires...but the RS3s were a little less tire for the compound. 16/10 would be awesome with r-comps. I actually ran XP20s with hawk blues (9012) on the back and it was actually really really good, just cracked two sets of rotors for the 1 set of pads.

R8 good for street car with little track days. I'm on r16 and street tires.
