Does a head-and-neck restraint system prevent the types of injuries sustained by the gentleman who went sideways into the berm at the buttonhook last October? From my understanding, his head snapped sideways, severing an artery.

Great photo.

I realize this is not a HANS device. I'm just looking for something to aleviate some of the stress of multi-day HPDE's. Do you think this is an appropraite application or are there alternatives I should consider?

Thanks.
No, it's fine for that purpose. As long as you're aware what it is and isn't supposed to do for you then you can make an intelligent decision.

There's nothing else that I'm aware of that would do what you want.

It can't hurt.

Some of the systems theoretically do a better job in certain impacts than others but as the saying goes, they're all better than nothing.

Just to chime in the middle of the debate...if "donuts" are not useful...why are they required for competitive karting? Even doing some non-competitive stuff, I know many people who won't kart/track without them for safety....Clearly all different types of safety gear have their benefits, limitations, and proper arena of use...to argue that it is of no value is just misleading to the masses. I just think about the concept of a bump/slap/brush/etc, but with a helmut on and the type of stress that can put on your neck...to me... I'd keep my "donut" versus nothing at all...those SA rated helmuts are heavier than the M rated ones! Now if I was racing for a living...HANS, arm straps, and a host of other things designed to keep me safe!
