Default Hpde and Cusco cage

Is the Cusco cage legal to use in hpde events. Still have stock loops on. California.

Legal? No state laws I know of require cages. Individual tracks have their own requirements for liability purposes. Heck, we drove our pickups and camper trailers around Watkins Glen without roll cages. Fast enough for most of us.

It's known as the Cusco Crush Cage around me. Most just go with a harddog, evasive, and rockstar

It depends on the organization/track, but I would suggest getting a real roll bar or having a cage built to organizing body spec (wouldn't do a cage if you're planning on driving it on the street). I wouldn't trust a Cusco cage, even a Safety 21 (the supposedly safe Cusco brand) as they both compromise the front supports to avoid cutting the dash.

It probably will be good enough for most track day organizations but like the others above I believe that cage could be worse than nothing in a rollover.

Cusco/Stand21 and Euro/Asian built cages I'm aware of use 35mm tubing. All American sanctioning bodies that I'm aware of have a minimum requirement of 1.5", which is 38mm. That would make them non-compliant based on tubing diameter before you even get to design discussions.

Safety 21 has a 40mm diameter with a 2mm thickness, which is why some people think it's okay to use without considering the overall design.

I've never seen an HPDE organizer measure the diameter of a cage tube. Racing yes, HPDE no.

The Safety 21 version may use tubing that meets the rules, but those big S-bends in the front down tubes invalidate it's function as a protective device.
