Default HPDE with patched tire?

Had a small nail dead center of rear tire.
Was repaired with a patch.
Would you guys still track your car?

was the tire dismounted and properly patched on the inside or just one of those sticky ropes shoved in the hole

It was a real inside patch done at Costco(they are almost too safety oriented sometimes).
I wouldn't get a crappie rope hole filler.
Just a little concerned about high temps and hard breaking being an issue.

Tires are Potenzas with about 50% tread left.

You're fine. I've tracked on a patch and a plug. Patch is safer. Just keep an eye on that tire.

In the future a plug patch would be preferable over a regular patch. Tire flex can work a regular patch loose.

Thanks Vanishing Point. They may have done both. I'll check today.
It was a pretty small hole though.

I tracked on a plug with RE-11s (not the "a"s). And prior to that - i tracked the same tire with the nail in the tire

Yes, bone headed move, but I didn't realize that there was a nail in the tire until after the track day. I either picked it up on the way home, or on the way to the track - only noticed the nail after I had dismounted the tire, and checked the air pressures 3 weeks later for my next event (didn't match my other 4 tires - not even close). I got the nail removed, and tire plugged. Ran the tires down to the tread wear indicator bars - a total of 11-12 track days.

Most good tire shops now use what is called a patch/plug where you grind the inside of tire for good adhesion and then apply an adhesive to the inside of the tire for the patch part and then you pull the plug part through the tire and snip off the end. It will work great in the middle of the tire and I would have no concern with it. I worked at Walmart Tire and Lube for 6 months and our policy was only plug/patching a tire if it was more than the width of the patch away from the sidewall as the flex of the sidewall could cause the patch to fail.
