Congrats to Jason, You certainly worked very Hard for this one.

When I was driving to the site thursday morning in the pooring rain I thought any chance of Hanging with you guys was gone given my awful rain results earlier in the year (SEDIV #1 where G.H. Sharp ran 6 seconds quicker then me in the rain in his boxster) I couldn't believe how well the car worked. I was and still am amazed I was as close as I was. I'm still bummed I didn't get to drive that course in the dry it looked like it would have been a BLAST. I guess just something to look forward to at the warm up next year.

Fridays course was another story. It was a green course that yeilded much less grip then I think any of us had expected. Jason said it best that andy's 49 was simply because he didn't make any mistakes (not to mention he's a damn good driver). I wish I had in an in car camera to catch my cursing as I repeatedly screwed up the same 2 corners. (speaking of which I think Jason owes us some video). Andy liked my Ex girl friend excuse. But honestly I think the car had the time in it i just couldn't drive it.

I had such a blast out there and I hope i'm able to keep the car to have the same kinda fun next year (Co-drive in a 12 second SM2 miata was offered). I think Andy has talked me in to getting some nicer shocks If I keep her. So Jason are those Motons up forsale and Can I make Payments.

BTW Congrats to Carter as well, He's worked his butt off on that Z and 6th place is truely amazing seeing how far he's come with the car in a year. Look at his friday time and realize that he was haveing "ICE MODE" come on at the exit of the slalom into the 2nd turn around causing him to drive straight out to the wall. Also Congrats on his new Wife as she is finally moving in with him tomorrow (long story). I guess that means he'll get slower now.

Owned!!!

Congrats to everyone that did well in BS. Besides being the largest class, it's also one of the toughest, with the driving talent running DEEP. I didn't go from 41st to 4th in one year without the class change making things a bit easier.

Thanks Andy, I appreciate the kind words... I drove well on at least one day, and drove well enough on the second. But our rain setup (whether or not it's because of the shocks I'll leave for everyone else to decide) was so good that I could go out and push hard on my first wet run without hitting anything. The car is rock-stable and predictable in the rain.

If you want to use the event as shock "data", I'd save $2K and get Penske's which are faster in the dry (where I spend 99% of my events driving). YMMV.
Heh... they are only faster in the dry because the 'loose nut' behind the wheel hasn't figured out quite the right way to dial the knobs. Furthermore, they are a 1st generation of valving - with one year of data, we are now going to apply that to a 2nd generation of valving that will hopefully step the game up once more.

BTW, Andy... it's been a real blast racing against you. I think luck played a large part in my success, (recent 2-day rain test by chance.) You have always pushed me hard and made me constantly improve as a driver - and done so with the utmost respect for your competitors. Truly a class act, and not just one of the best drivers in autocross, but one of the best people as well.

Also, congrats to Ken and JZR... 1st and 4th in STS is pretty sweet. Congrats as well to other members here: Windscreen for finishing 9th in BS, and Pete (sticky Pete) for finishing 10th. And everyone else for taking part in such a large and entertaining class. ]

Any chance of a The Year in Review-type setup thread from one of you?

Thanks,
Steve

Upon Request, I don't know if this will work for everyone but I like it.

Koni Yellows (off the shelf valving)
Gendron Solid Bar at full stiff
1/8 toe out in the front
0 toe in the rear
1.75 Neg camber up front with as much caster as I could get
2.25 neg camber in rear
Kumho's in the rain 36 front, 33 rear with 1/4 turn from soft on the koni's front and rear
Hoosiers in the dry, 38.5 front, 37.5 rear 3/4 turn from soft on front shocks, 1/4 turn on the rear shocks. NOTE went to 1/2 turn from soft on front shocks for last run. Felt much better but I almost spun the car and lost alot of time. (I have a gut feeling that this set of hoosiers the Fronts weren't as good as the rears, and that's why it felt better with less front shock then i've used in the past)

Hope this helps, I saw it as the cheapest way to get competetive. Other then Shocks, Sway bar, and Comptech exhaust(not by choice) the car is Completely stock.

Ian

Those of us without Ian's driving ability or the word "Sideways" in our names might be better off running some toe-in in the rear...

I had 1/4 toe out in the rear for the Ft. myres pro and tour and A) I didn't know i had 1/4 toe out (due to an alighment shop mistake) untill Mark Sipe pointed it out to me in Impound. and B) I grew to like it. My co-driver couldn't stop spinning the car so he asked me to go to toe in (Which after talking to Bill Gendron and having him explain to me in alighnment for idiots terms I can understand why it would be much quicker). I didn't want to do a drastic change so we settled for half way in between. Jim jumped on board as the new co-driver and he's just as crazy as I am so we've left it at 0 toe.

Anyone know the top finishing STOCK SHOCK car/driver? I saw some Honda shock equipped S2000s. Maybe that will help give us a partial idea of what sophisticated dampers can do for you... assuming the other mods allowed in stock were comparable. (The driver remains the main contributor to great course times of course. )
