worked like a charm. Could communicate in a car with quieter exhaust easily and a louder car was a bit tougher but defiantly not bad. I recommend them for the price 100%

Nice! I am going to order one and maybe a set of these so you dont have the in-ear (could get gross quickly) ear pieces:
Amazon Amazon

Just cut/rip the headband off and tape the wire to the boom

I was told from a supplier that the Chatterboxes have been updated and that the chords and where the headset plug in are beefier, and maybe something was done to the box as well. Also heard they haven't had any complaints or returns since the upgrade, where as they always had returns with the originals. Can anyone confirm this?

Had the chance to try out the little $13 job and it worked okay. The headsets are horrible though. My student and I had to basically scream at each other (Panoz GTS) and the foam pieces all fell off by the 2nd session. Brad, have you found a better headset that will work with these?

Don't pull on the wire or the mic. Don't pull on anything. Leave it on, remove the helmet with the mic/earpiece still in it, then take it from the empty helmet.

I'm going to get a set from Amazon as a spare though. The whole Chatterbox looks like it could fall apart at any moment. I'm okay paying $13 for a POS spare I'll never use as insurance against paying $100 for a POS at the track.

The only way for me to actually hear a damn thing was with the ear bud under my headsock and literally inside my ear. Yeah I am reading the reviews of the chatterbox and they're awful.

Like I said--the fact that no one has come up with something good and easy is shocking to me.....

You omitted inexpensive from your request, so... :-)

I have a Roux helmet prewired with noise-canceling mic and earphones. It works really well with the chatterbox adapter. My students still need to use the cheapo mic/earpiece that came with the chatterbox, but now I have a spare. I've mitigated risk by wire-tying the cable and mic together and reminding my students to leave it in the helmet.

I'm fully aware a new helmet is not an inexpensive solution, but if you need to buy a helmet anyway (because your old one is expired or just smells like a fish basket) then seriously consider getting one with communication built in. Roux makes a very nice helmet that is a real value for everything you get.

Good luck with the search. I'm still rocking my beat up Chatterbox.

At the end of every session, I tell my students the same thing... Works 60% of the time
