Cool Irregular Tire wear help

Hey friends,

I need some feedback from those track drivers who have had relevant experiences.

Running stock ap1 shocks/springs/sways. with ~235 street / r-comp tires, and -3' camber up front.

Have your tires worn out the outer edge of your tread faster than the middle or the inside?

This happened to me with this setup, and I've wasted a set of tires just because the outer edge has been worn out too fast.

I think that it's due to too much body roll in turns, therefore changing -3' camber to more like 0 during the load.

How does CR's perform? I assume it's similar? CR's only have significantly higher front spring rate than ap1's. Everything else is close to ap1 spec.

My goal is to determine if running a CR spring up front would fix that tire wear problem.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks!!

that's really weird.... i am running 3deg up front right now on nt05's (200 treadwear) and on the track the wear is mostly even--if there is wear, it is not nearly as extreme as in your photots. on the street, there is quite a bit of camber wear on the inside.

i've also had street/r-comp's at 3.3deg up front, and was about even too.

What pressure are you running. If its to low the sidewall will flex and the tire will roll in. I would run 30psi cold on SS. Im on RS3s now and run 40psi cold due to the softer side walls.

I second the low pressure theory. I like NT01s at about 37psi coming off the track (hot). It seems street tires like a little higher hot pressure on track.

Yea, and those are RS-3's not R-comps.... RS-3's like a lot of pressure

Also, you need to have the tires dismounted and flipped inner to outer before they wear out. Stiffer springs and more tire pressure would help, though.

You're running a camber kit to get that much camber, right?

A few possible causes:

a) not enough pressure
b) over-driving the tires (sliding a lot, especially understeer into turns)
c) wheels not wide enough for the tire
d) that seems to be a common wear pattern on those Hankooks

I remember I was running about 36 or 38 hot at the track. Only driven these tires on the track.

I felt any more pressure would make them too loose.

I am running a 255 tire on a 8.5..

thanks for the tips. it might be a combination of these factors..
i plan to run RA-1's next. but more grip would mean more body roll.

yes I run a camber kit too.
