June Sprints
Hey Jason,
Just to let you know we were 13 seconds faster in
qualifying on sun! Must have been the engineering on the spoiler
(not).1st in class. We had a 33 second lead over second place
untill the ignition box failed on lap 3.
Good to see you and julianne this weekend.

Bob-
Woo Hoo! You were fast on Sunday qualifying! Bummer to hear about the ignition troubles on the third lap.... damn Italian cars. Fix It Again Tony.....
I can't believe that I didn't get a pic of you at the fabricating table working on that genius air dam. I think it must have been because I was laughing too hard
Glad we got to see the crew chief in action, that Zed guy woulda' been proud!
Ya'll should come to Shwartz with us that nite tho.... steaks were amazing (yes I fell offa the wagon) and the scenery was great! We'll just have to go in July.

You were at the Sprints? I was there all weekend. Did you guys ride your bikes? I saw a bike like Jason's and I thought it was him, but I wasn't sure.
Were you there to see the S2000 run at all?
Greg and Keith were there Sat.

Yep... Jules and I rode up there for Saturday. We saw Greg and Keith on the track at lunch, but never saw any stook owners in the paddock. We know many of the racers/people there so we were kinda cruising the paddock and turn5 talking to the drivers, crews and marshalls. We even got to meet the CEO of the SCCA...
The highlight of the weekend was definitely watching Bob's expert fabrication skills on the Alfa... Looks like it was worth allot of time! Too bad that Jim 'Knifed his way to the back' like he predicted.
Also fun to watch the Touring/SS race. Awesome driving from Bob Schader who SMASHED the T1 record by turning a 2:29 in a Z06 Vette. Also nice work by the S2000 pilot for matching the winner Brian Kelm's 2:40 lap. And finally, nice driving by Brian S to win SSB in the Prelude. Some wild driving in the first 2 laps got him the margin he needed to win.
Low-light of the weekend was hearing that Nathan B. (EP Prelude) hit the wall hard in 12. The car was not pretty, and Nathan was in the hospital all day. They released him, and I talked to him before leaving the track on Saturday... he was quite sore but will be fine. Get better Nathan!

J&J (and Bob):
Ann and I were roaming the paddock taking photos on Sunday, and saw that the spoiler was back on the "fabrication table", this time with "King Motorsports" stickers affixed!
Having witnessed some of the initial engineering activity with Jason and Juliann Saturday afternoon, I couldn't pass up taking a couple of quick shots before we had to head off.
I'll try to post a copy, and if it turns out OK, it might also make an appearance in Piston Patter. Sorry to hear it was only effective briefly!
As for J&J--you missed more great racing on Sunday. There were many highlights, but the Formula Ford battle was probably the most amazing. The Spec Racer Ford mayhem was pretty entertaining as well. Many, many different and unique lines were attempted into and out of Turn 5.
Glad you guys made the trip up--we had lots of fun and the dinner at Schwartz's was well worth the short drive.
See you Friday!

Yea, the Z06 in T1 was unbelievable - just destroyed everything.
Any idea why there was a Prelude stuck in T2 and not in the SS class?
That SSB race was pretty awesome with the Celica, Teg and Miata going at it.
There was a bunch of "controversy" in the FC class (couldhave been in others as well). A buddy races in this class and he said that there was some special gas from California that was "oxygenated" or something that gave cars using it 4-5hp. Anybody hear of this? I guess it costs $18/gallon!!

Who was the S2000 pilot? Was this TC's car or the King Motorsports car? Where did he place in T2? If he matched the Mustangs time there it speaks well for the car because RA is a hp track. Are you going to the Grand Am race July 5-8 at Road America? I'll be there crewing for the Genesis BMW M3 with Bill Auberlan driving. Should be fun.
I found the answer:http://www.junesprints.com/2001/group3.html
Kelm did well at the Runoffs last year and RA is not a S2000 track so I think the car could do well at handling tracks.

I was going to post the link but you beat me to it... Never heard of the guy. It was definitely TC's car, as the King car was unfortunately damaged in an accident recently. No word on wether the car will see the track again, but for now the white one is the only one.
He was .7 seconds from the Mustang's race time, but Brian Kelm won there last year, so it was some nice driving by Rick Gilhart to get that close. The margin of victory was 18 seconds... it looks like it was Rick's first time at RA, because he was getting faster all weekend, and finally turned that 2:40 in the race. Kelm had several 'slow' AS cars between him and Rick on the grid, so he gained most of that 18 second interval on the first few laps...
Yep, I'll be at the Grand Am weekend... I'll be spending allot of time in the King paddock rooting on their team. I'd like to meet up with you (and maybe meet Bill A.)
Look me up! I'll probably have my bike up there so look for a tall guy on a Black Ducati Monster. Looking forward to it!
