Default Lap Timers?

I was wondering what everyone uses and how they like it. I want to get one and cannot decided between AiM Solo or the Qstarz.

Any recommendations or input?

Aim solo, I use them at work and at home, never had an issue with them. Can data-log with them, etc.

If all you want is a laptimer, then use your cell phone. If you want more, then make the investment.

+1 for the Solo. If you want to look at date. If you are just curious your laptimes and don't want to rent a transponder get the phone app

I switched to the AIM Solo because I hate f@#king with my phone during a track day. I turn it on, literally throw it in the car, and forget about it. Works great.

I want something more that just a timer. I want data. I had a friend loan me his qstarz and i liked that the screen turned green or red in sectors telling you if you are faster or slower. I also like to pull the data to see how that lap went and where improvements can be made. Not sure if AiM Solo can do that.

The AiM Solo software is pretty powerful. It has pretty much become the industry standard for trackday/amateur racers replacing the Traqmate. Most cell phone lap times can do sectors and predictive lap timing as well though.

Another +1 for the Solo, or Solo DL, depending what you're looking for. Really the non-DL will get you 90% of the useful features for 50% of the cost. Phone apps are an option too, but the Solo is great because it "just works." You literally turn it on when you get in the car, unless you have a DL which turns itself on when you start the car, and you don't have to touch it again, and it does what it's supposed to every time.

The Solo will tell you in real time if you are faster or slower than your current fastest lap, and by how much. I like to use this when I'm trying to make a faster lap, and once I know I've blown the lap I can cool the car down a bit and try again next lap. I'm not sure if it can tell you if you are faster or slower in the sector you're currently in (I haven't really played with breaking things down by sector). And it's a monochrome display only.
