Default Launch Control - helpful for prosolos?

So I've never used launch control before, with the prosolo coming up I was wondering if I should since I have it thanks to the flashpro. Has anyone used it that can comment?

On one hand, it would be nice to be able to quickly and reliably be at the same RPM every time.

On the other hand, grip goes up throughout the day and I'm worried I'll end up with launch RPM too low and have to continue using that same RPM for 4 runs before I can go back to paddock and change it - which would suck both for my times and my diff.

Right now I'm thinking I won't use it, but I'm curious about others' thoughts.

I have no experience with pro-solos but I'd set it just a tad higher than you think you'll need. It will be there just in case.. .

I'd do the opposite at D.C. It is an uphill start on slippery, sealed asphalt. I can spin 315's from almost idle when we start where the Pro will.

I wouldn't call it launch control. I'd call it a 2 stage rev limiter. I mean, how hard is it to hold a specific RPM with your foot? Also, how will you adjust quickly to the changing surface conditions at a PRO? Also, if running hankooks, do you really need to worry about it since your 60' will be horrible anyway?

I'd call it more of a gimmick that's born from the fact that it was very easy for Hondata to add this "feature".

I've seen people use this feature with the Zdyne ECU's that were available for the EF Hondas and I've seen them set it too low and then get totally screwed when they wish they were able to raise the revs because the car was bogging but they didn't have their equipment with them.

That was exactly my thought.

It is kind of tough to get an exact RPM, especially since there must be some kind of magnetic field in the northeast, every prosolo here never has the shot clock working, so you're always in much more of a hurry. So I'm maybe within 500 RPM of where I want to be. But that should be good enough.

But I don't think it's worth it for just the reasons you specified.

By the way I'm rolling with dunlops at least until the summer gets really hot, possibly even then too.

Thanks for the input everyone.

I use the 2 step launch for all the pro solos. However my 60 times were never the quickest so i cant say it is helpful. If your going to use it, my only advice is to aim low

Is there any benefit to it aside from holding a specific rpm, like applying some load to the engine with it cutting at the limiter, rather than free revving manually?

Is there a method you guys use to 'pre-load' the drivetrain when launching to not shock it as much and avoid breakage? Have heard about this a lot in drag racing, does it apply to autocross launches and how do you do it?

Yes I slightly slip the clutch to load up the rear end. This is tricky with the CDV since I have an AP2. Careful not to burn up your clutch.
