you can also always go down the custom rollbar route. i had one welded in that looks better to me then the usual rollbars that are around and still clears the factory soft top. ofcourse price is alil more and u lose the storage copartments.

I am thinking of occasionally tracking too (2 HPDEs per year at most). Do you think a Hard Dog bar without a diagonal will satisfy the safety requirement? I'm a short guy at 5'4 so the broomstick test shouldn't be an issue.

Reason for the bar without diagonal is I want to keep the car looking as stock as possible. Thanks!

You may not need one at all if you are only 5'4". You would pass the broomstick test with the stock roll hoops. There are some (stupid) organizations that still won't allow it, but I would check with your local org before spending what may be unneeded money.

Sounds like an expensive commitment to gut out the car and spend $600-$700 on a roll bar.

How long do you think you're going to keep the car? Another 3 years? So 6 HPDE events. The cost of that bar essentially turns into $100 per event.

And, if you want to sell the car in 3 years, no one is going to want a mostly stock car with gutted out rear. You'll have to restore it to stock looking form and un-install it.

Either you're selling the car stock, or as a full racecar - in between usually equates to a hard sale and lost money. GL

"2 HPDEs at most" is not worth it and at your height you really won't need anything else but the stock hoops. Save your money and do more HPDEs with organizations that won't give you a hard time over the OEM roll hoops. Also, like Bullwings said, think about the value of the car and how it's gonna be affected long term.

so im assuming then that with a hardtop the "broomstick" test is not done then?

Also for those wondering. With the Harddog bar and a Forbidden USA oem top it doesn't fit perfectly and hits in the bends in the corners of the top. Will more than likely need to have it trimmed and refiberglassed if you want it perfect

I have one of the original Bitterman Bars. It is very cool. It slants forward to give maximum height for roof clearance. A Nascar racer told me that it was way overbuilt. They are very hard to find today.

With my oem top and HardDog bar it is rubbing on the bends. Plenty of room in the center.
