I have a polycarbonate hardtop rear screen, weighs next to nothing and is almost unbreakable.

In order to be able to get the curves you need to get it flow formed, and that all adds to the cost!

Couldn't you run the plastic screens over the windshield like they do on Rolex and ALMS cars. When it gets hard to see and/or dirty, just rip the plastic sheet off (it's like saran wrap or clear sticker).

When "unbreakable" Lexan breaks, it tends to end up in big shards. Not so good. I'd be inclined to stick with glass for safety reasons as well as cost.

plexiglass is cheaper yet more brittle, it will fog over time though!
