Default M1-104 Oil Filter For Track

Hi,

Anyone use the Mobil-1 104 Extended Performance oil filter for track duties before? I just took off mu K&N and when I was about to pit in the M1 filter, I noticed there were only 5 ports instead of the 8 on K&N.

Am I over thinking this? Just use the M1?

Someone here on s2ki posted (not sure if it was R&C or Under Hood forum) that the OEM has more flow but filters less, whereas the M1 filters more particles (percentage-wise) but has more restricted flow. So if you're tracking the car you want more flow. Again, I am not making any claims about it, just repeating what someone said on his post (I wish I had time to look for it). It bums me out because I have 2 or 3 M1 filters in the garage that I bought on sale.

make sure you torque the oem filter to spec. hand tight will not cut it with the oem filter.

7/8th turn from gasket contact = 16 lb/ft...you should be able to do this by hand unless you're a weakling

https://www.s2ki.com/forums/s2000-un...filter-441371/

I've always gone as tight as I possibly can by hand...have yet to have an issue and taking them off is a PITA.

no, you guys are crazy, or have popeye forearms.

out of curiousity, do you measure how many 8th's of a turn you can make the filter turn by hand after the filter makes contact?

i would be surprised if you measured it and actually turned it 7/8's.

by hand, i may get it to turn 4/8's...and then the remaining 3/8's i get with a filter wrench

if you can turn it 7/8's by hand, i would like to see a video of it, otherwise i call BS.

lol.

we're talking about using your hand gripping the filter itself and turning it right?

in your vid, you would have to show yourself turning the filter until it makes contact, it takes a few turns before making contact.

I guess in order to prove that it's made contact, you would tap on the filter in the loosen direction to show that it's not still completely loose, and then from there show your self turning the filter 7/8's by hand.
