For what it's worth, I usually run mobil1 EP oil with the EP filter on my k20 civic Si. I've tracked it hard before and ran an oil analysis on it afterwards through blackstone labs, and everything was strong and healthy (engine had about 70k miles on it, with 6k oil changes)

I've never used anything but my hand to tightened an oil filter on any vehicle. Baffles my mind that someone would need a wrench to snug an oil filter...

There is nothing unique about an s2000 filter. Its a shared design with many, many others.

Billman250's post regarding the oem filter:

The PCX filter for the s2k is different than most filters, as it uses metal-to-metal contact to achieve it's final torque. The gasket only compresses a small amount before the fliter casing bottoms out on the engine so you can tighten it.

Bottom line, this filter requires more torque than any other filter. If this filter is tighened only enough to compress the gasket a little, and not bottom out, IT WILL COME OFF. This is a proven fact.

Make it tight Tighten all the way by hand, you'll feel it stop dead against the engine. Then just snug it from there with the filter wrench.

The point is, there is no special procedure to dealing with this filter over any other assuming your able bodied enough to tighten it enough by hand. Every filter whether its my Tacoma or my S2000 gets the same twisting trq from my hand, which is as tight as I can twist it on. Sometimes I need to use a filter wrench to get it back off, but never use one to get it on. Never had a problem and never will. I think where some may have an issue with the S2k is proper access to the filter to get enough hand leverage on it if they still have the heat shield/divider in place which I do not. I get full twist access from above the car. Out of 13 years and however many oil changes in that 220k miles Ive done, its the same way as any other car. Looking at the multitude of filter brands/options that fit on the F series engine that ive used ie Mobil 1, oem, Kn, Wix etc with them all lined up next to another, there is nothing particularly special or different about any of them over any other car manufacture.

that's good.

i still don't believe you can get it 7/8 turn by hand only, using the numbers printed on the filter itself, after the filter makes contact.

so with this belief, if you want to get it to the specification printed on the oil filter itself, you would need a filter wrench.

I will mark the rotation of filter on my next oil change for shits and giggles and report back.
