Default manual rack conversion

I have a fried eps control unit. has anyone come across a successful manual rack conversion?

not to offend anyone, but im not looking for pros and cons or for anyone to try and talk me out of the conversion. I am fully aware of the consequinces of my actions.

thanks for any help you can give me on the matter.

this would be interesting...

so shutting off power to the rack does not allow it to work without assist?

It would work without EPS but it would probably feel pretty heavy. In a standard hydraulic rack this is because you're still pumping fluid through the lines when you turn the wheel and it is hitting resistance at the pump and various fittings. In an EPS rack you're pushing against the resistance of the (now dead) motor and any associated gears.

Seeing how the S2k is a pretty specialized production car I highly doubt there is an exactly identical "manual" rack that you could swap in. Like you could swap a manual Civic rack into a power-assisted Integra.

So... that means if you want to lighten up the feel, the best bet would be to remove the motor that provides the actual assist from the rack. that should make it lighter. Now I have not taken a steering rack apart nor looked at the diagrams, so I do not know if it is actually feasible.

I feel like even if the motor is removed, the 13.8:1 steering ratio would still feel a bit heavy. Most manual racks are between 18-22:1. i.e. NSX, rx7.
