Default Mods when using an electric water pump

Folks,

I want to run my car with no belt at all being driven by the harmonic balancer. That means using an electric water pump. Have any of the drag racers done this (I'm sure many have) and do you just leave the stock pump in place and pump through it, or do you have to "gut" it to allow the water to pass?

Thanks,

Jim Knapp
