This is mostly for Jason, but if anyone else has the knowledge, it'd be appreciated.

What is involved in swapping out the thermostat? I've done it on some cars and it's been easy, others it hasn't been so easy....

It is more work on this car. I think there is a thread on it under the car talk forum. You must drain the coolant and get to the thermostat from under the car. Tool me longer to do the thermostat than to swap the header..

It's not so easy. You need to really get at it from the underside of the car unless you're willing to take some other pieces off. The factory manual isn't too helpful in offering suggestions.

I did it about 9 months ago and we had one person underneath with a long extension and one person up top guiding (with small hands). Thankfully it isn't on there too tight. It's a tight reach with the engine mount kinda getting in the way.

If I were to do it again, I think I'd take off the upper radiator hose (runs along side the intake manifold from teh radiator) and maybe the alternator (which looks pretty simple). Then you should be able to do it from the top of the car.

King Motorsports was very helpful on the phone with my Mugen header install, but they weren't open when we did the thermostat. I'd definitely consider giving them a call if I were installing the thermostat. Maybe someone else has found a better way.

On the extension, we actually used a wobble drive. Thinking about it some more, I'd definitely think about an alternate method.

King Motorsports installed ours... not that I'm lazy, but they've done many! I'm not even sure where it is (that's terrible) but it sounds like a pain. Do you have the manual, Ron? I can scan the pages for you if you don't. Good luck!

No, we don't have the manual.... Unless we get protested that is, then of course we do! If you could scan those, that would be great. I think Annie's ordering it up today.

Did you just get the manual from the dealership? How much was it, and did they have a CD-ROM available?

Pardon my raging ignorance, but can I ask an obvious question (answer: better than anyone we know)? What is the advantage of the/a Mugen thermostat as opposed to the stock one? I assume that the Mugen does a better job of regulating the temp, which may help the engine perform better because it's (to steal from Little Red) "just right?"

Am I on the right track?
