Default Need help with harness layout

Let me preface this with: yes, there will be a proper rollbar installed in the car (HardDog).

The seat in question is a Bride Vios 3, which has 4 slots for the harnesses. I realize that the proper way for a 5/6-pt is a bottom central slot, which the Vios doesn't have.

However, I was reading Schroth Racing's huge document on all their systems/instructions/precautions/etc ( Link ). Page 29 of that file lists their "Profi F" (Formula style) models, where the setup dictates sitting on the sub straps. I would assume if you're sitting on the sub straps, that means they're being routed through the same slots as the lap belts? Is this system acceptable for use in the S2000?

If not, I just figure I'll look at their 4-pt Profi II ASM. In either case, I have a question about the lap belt mounting points: they must all go to the chassis? On my 07, for example, the passenger OEM belts both mount to the seat rails (belt anchor point and receiver anchor point). I'd imagine if Honda puts that much faith in the seat rails it must work decently well, unless they're counting on the seat rail failing at some point and having the airbag take over? If they all need to be chassis mounted, does anyone have (picture) examples of their mounting points? I'm looking to get the snap-in fittings for the lower belts, as it is a street driven car and will be used with OEM equipment on the street.

I've done a bunch of searching and came up with some good info, but I still have these specific questions. Thanks for any help!

I have a 6-pt belt install in my car if you would like to take a look. Here are my mounting points:

Left lap and left sub - Stock lower mounting point
Right lap - rear of the seat on the transmission tunnel
Right sub - tab on the seat rail
Shoulder straps - on the harness bar with harness guides

Also, if you have not ordered the bar yet, send me a PM. I have a removeable diag and harness bar setup that works with the interior that I'd be willing to sell.

Dude, just get a proper seat.

As for the lap belt, most people use the OEM point on the outside and put a new one through the tunnel on the inside (with backing plate).

My sub straps attach through the floor, again with backing plates. One on either side of the box beam that runs down there.

I'm a Schroth dealer and pretty much in agreement with Mike - Is this seat FIA approved? That should answer your question right there.

Moreover there is a reason this is called "Formula" - it is meant for a formula car where the bulkhead is sufficiently tall and reinforced to mount the shoulder straps through there. Furthermore, formula cars have moulded seats versus our shells thus one is sitting on the floor, hence the antisubmarine mounting style.

PLEASE don't mess with such important safety issues! If not on the track, why doing this - the belts? HardDog (dealer with them too) has a provision for the stock belt ($60 option) - use it! However if insistent, Mike is correct with his set-up; use outer point and drill and reinforce with a plate the inner on the tranny tunnel. Same with sub but you need compatable seat to do so. We don't need to lose another member - think carefully why you are doing this! You can call me later today if you want on my cell: 770.597.4646

Do you have bolts in the floor that you clip the subs into or is the strap tab mounted flush with the floor?

I'd like to add as well that my sub straps do not go through the bottom of the seat. I attempted this and with a 6pt harness, there were too many sharp angles for the belts to run. Running the belts through where the lap belts are (so I sit on them) makes just as much sense and gets rid of the sharp angles. My only concern is that I have both the left lap and left sub belts mounted at the same point, possibly putting too much stress on that bolt.

Bolts in the floor, with backing plates on the other side. I think there is a mounting tab that the belts clip in to.

(I hired someone to do this install, and while I directed and inspected it, I don't remember the exact details quite as well as I would if I had done it myself.)

Thanks for the help, everyone.

This is being done mainly as an extra safety measure for the track. Really only HPDE days, no competition use, so I won't need to glue myself to any specific rulebooks.

I suppose I should just pull some stuff apart and look for it, but I have an 07, and since the passenger side seat & belt setup was changed in 06, there is no longer a stock seatbelt mounting point on that side, the belt goes directly to the seat (lame). I'll check to see if by some divine grace there happens to be the original threaded hole still there, but I'd really doubt it.

Mounting a new point and backing plate on the inside belts on the transmission tunnel looks pretty easy, but I don't think there's any way to get to the oppposite side of the sheetmetal where the old outside stock point is. Thus, no way to install a backing plate.

Figures Honda had to go screw things up a year before I got an S2000.

If you have to, use an approved eye bolt/reinforcement plate set-up with snap-in lap belt. Mount it in the floor outside the seat and back sufficiently per the instructions for mounting from Schroth. Frankly with the usage you have in mind, why not go Rallye?? They have a sew in mech to eliminate submarining.

rookie question here...while the vios isn't fia-approved, doesn't it have five harness slots? two by the shoulders, two by the hips, and one between the legs?
