Need help picking out a helmet
#11
Ordering helmets online did not work for me, I returned a couple that should have fit based on measurements but were painful to wear once they arrived. I had to go to a local shop and try a few brands on before I found one that fit the shape of my head comfortably. I settled on an Arai for Solo because it was quite comfy to me.

all helmets used for motorsports should have an SA2010/SA2015 (or newer) sticker on the helmet..
$70 DOT helmets are more for scooters and slow moving vechicles, this is what i use when riding my ruckus
m rated for motorcycles
helmets are rated for the more common types of impacts that might happen during proper use. use the proper tools for the job

Also note that it's 2013 so you're looking at a SA 2010 Helmet that will only be good for 7 years. You might be able to pick up a heavily discounted SA 2005 to use for a few years and then pick up a 2015 in 2015.
I'm holding out for two more years before my next helmet purchase....

^^ good point.. hjc will be releasing their sa2015 models quite a bit ahead of time from what i was told.. the ar10s with removable headliners are great...but my helmets tend to get too nasty for me to keep as long as 7years

I bought a Simpson Voyager for $300... its SA2010 rated. Fits my head pretty well, but I went to a store and tried them on first. Tried large, medium, and some different cheek pad combinations. Ended up with a medium with the thinner cheek pads.
FWIW- I had a HJC M2005 helmet before and it was uber comfortable, but heavy. I'm not too impressed with my Simpson's build quality, i.e. Velcro cheek pads, some padding edges don't line up right.

It is best to try on different brands, models, and sizes (as long as you are relatively close to a shop). Every helmet will fit your head differently. There are plenty in your price range.
