Default Need a new rearview mirror...suggestions?

Cracked the potmetal surround on my OE rearview mirror and figured this is a perfect time to get something with better visibility. Recommendations welcome.

Ive been using a clip-on broadview for years. It sucks driving from/to at night since it doesnt have a "night mode" but i can see the space under both wing endplates with ease. Barely need side mirrors with it.

I know many that swear by the allview for cage-mounted (they also have a clip-on similar to mine).

I got a nice panoramic mirror for about $50 including machined aluminum brackets (sorry I don't remember the brand). It had a rigid frame with a true mirror surface. Unfortunately I got it with the wrong diameter tube brackets and had to exchange it. They were out of the good brand, so I got the $30 version with cheap universal brackets. The mirror is hazy, and the frame flexes, so there is some distortion in the surface making the reflection look like a funhouse attraction.

Unfortunately I cannot remember either brand, but I can tell you there is a difference in quality.

I was never able to get my spring loaded clip-on broadview on due to the thickness of oem rear view mirror. I wonder if there are difference models.

Check out this mirror. I believe it is the better one of the two I bought. Verify the tube OD is correct.

Mirrors are very important for maintaining situational awareness, especially when there are big speed differential between cars. The easier it is interpet with fewer missing views the more the driver can focus on going forward faster. Note: my last years of racing was done in classes where mirrors were prohibited because they enabled blocking.

There are other sites also.

There is the 5-panel mirror. Covers a wide field without resorting to distortion.

Additionally, for not that much there are camera systems for trucks and trailers that give a continuous view. Some can use 3 or more cameras to also cover both sides.

Note that Motec has a camera dash functionally similar to the above, but maybe a bit too expensive. https://www.motec.com.au/c1812/c1812overview/

This shows what can be done, just for perspective:

Apparently the Gentex with per pixel exposure is a regular product that costs about $1100. A bit pricey, but in a closed S2000 with a roll bar and racing seats blocking the view, it would give an unobstructed view from behind.

The camera idea is kind of appealing. Considering my front halo bar is further in than most, I'm not sure the cage mount type are going to work...would probably be too close to my head.

There are clamps that go around the tubing; it should be relatively easy to fabricate a bracket to go in out of the way and mount to the front halo. The mirrors, even with screens, are light.

Note the RV/trailer type screens would mount to the dash, either on top or just below. On paper, the somewhat more expensive Gentex is interesting because of its claim each pixel controls its own exposure; sun and headlights are always a problem.

IMHO, any race car, and especially one with a small window top, racing seats, and a wing hanging out the back, is going to have an obstructed view. Outside of some pro racing and occasionally one or two classes, virtually amateur road course events are mixed class with some very rapid closing speeds. Even if your car is the fastest on the track, there will be times the car is going slower entering the pits, etc.

As a result, the camera system, if the cost isn't an issue, should offer significant advantages in safety and driver enjoyment.

This needs integration with a front facing camera and recording. Many race series are now mandating front and rear cameras to get a better picture of how and why contact occurs. I know of at least one that fines you when you are involved or witness to contact and cannot supply video.
