worked great to learn the track. not that the speeds were right, but I knew what corners were coming up which was a huge help.

for something like laguna or wsir I think it would help less since the tracks are so simple.

like you said, I thought GT5 was a huge help for knowing what corners were coming up. Suprises and the green monster go hand in hand when you first start racing it on GT5. Minimizing/getting rid of the suprises that certain turns and elevation changes give is key. The track seems more narrow in GT5 than in real life which actually benefits you when you go there for real. I learned the track well enough to go 80% of my ability in most tough areas and 90% in easier ones once I had a few laps in me. For the first time there, 80% is just about right. I probably pushed it a bit hard on my 5 and 6th lap but all was good. Got those R888 nice a hot and picking up rubber on the rears.

I used a couple different cars for practice on GT5 with a Logitech G27 wheel. Mainly a VW GTI 5speed with not many HP upgrades, suspension and hard race comp tires I think. The view out the window was good and the gear box was remotely similar to the Suzuki swift and I probably used the shifter 75% of the runs. I also practiced with the E46 M3 and of course, the GT R35 race car.

Same here - helps to learn the track but the game doesn't convey the severity of the following:
- elevation changes
- bumps and dips
- variations in pavement grip (there are huge variations from section to section when it's wet)

The fastest (part) of a lap I got on video. Phone battery died mid lap so I got no data :|

Slow lap in the snow @ VLN Nurburgring - Caterham R300 - This was 2nd or 3rd lap on the full circuit, going super slow because of the snow, but at least had (mostly working) speed.
