Default Nov SCCA Fastrack: S2000 moves down to BSP

The news on AS/BS should be out in the next Fastrack, but at least we know what SP class the s2000 falls into next year.

It had no chance in ASP. So any thoughts on whether the S2000 could be a good BSP car? What is currently competitive in BSP? Corvettes with a lot of tire? BMW M3?

ITEM 16) In Appendix A (p. 183), move the
following cars:
- Honda S2000 to BSP from ASP

Yes. Mostly the former now due to the popularity of SM.

I may run some events in BSP this year, but I will not be prepping my car to the full extent of the rules.

While I don't mean to unnecessarily discourage anyone from trying to campaign an S2000 in Street Prepared, the recent class change gets the car closer to being competitive in the same way counting to infinity minus 10 is easier than counting to infinity. Which isn't to say it's a classing mistake, as the car would likely be an overdog in CSP or ESP, just that there isn't a good SP home for it yet.

If things go well I'll be spending much of next year in BSP, but in a car that actually has a chance at winning...

^^^ That's kind of what I figured. A BSP S2000 might weigh in the low 2600lb range. A BSP Corvette could weigh in the high 2800lb range and fit a lot more tire under it.

How would you go about making a BSP S2000 weigh that little? I mean isn't it illegal in street prepared to strip the car?

Stock class S2000s dip into the mid-2600s -- just replacing the seats and steering wheel with racing units would put the S2000 into the low-2600s.

I'm certainly not going to spend the money to do it (or even have it to spend), but why does everyone think the S2000 would have such a difficult time in BSP?

If you take advantage of the update/backdate rules wouldn't a F20C with an '04/'05 tranny and diff. make a nice powertrain? With allowable mods. you may be able to get 225-230 Whp., have the car in the 2500 lb. area, a much lower CG with an amazing suspension, a more rigid body, and riding on 245/275 rubber with proper width and widely available lightweight wheels. It may not be a Nationals winner but certainly could take a trophy and win some Tours.

Maybe it's just wishful thinking.

[offtopic] I'd love to see a F-Prepared S2000 done right (~$55K?) [offtopic]

It's a whole lot of time and money in parts and more importantly pioneering for something with no guarantee of a good result. Heck, maybe it could be done, who knows. Tunnell surprised everyone with his BSP M3, though that car had a lot more to gain from UD/BD than does the S2000.

Were it me I'd start with an 04, as the car isn't really heavier. Light battery, seats, header, exhaust, intake, wheels, AC and stereo pulled should get it in the 25xx range. Then I'd figure out how high I can rev the F22 to try and widen the powerband. If it could do 9500rpm reliably (by autox standards), then maybe the car has a chance...

The 'Vettes are going to have way more rubber, at least twice the torque everywhere, and not that much more weight. Their CG is extremely low, suspension excellent, and their setups are very well known. Their big disadvantage is physical size, which the S2000 would have to capitalize on to have a chance.
