[ The 'angle' should really be from the CG of the bike and rider together drawn to the contact points of the tires; there's a reason the riders hang off the bikes
There is no variation in G force between different compound tires at the same lean angle. It's the compounds ability to reach lean angles. MotoGP guys are going over 60 degrees now. I can tell you my street tires on my 600RR sure as hell will not get to that lean angle and the associated lateral G force. They would lose traction way before that, at a lower lean angle and lower lateral G force.

Also, even if a street tire could reach 60deg lean angle, it would overheat very quickly when ridden hard. Same as with car street vs. track tires.

I used to roadrace w/ CMRA, and have done countless motorcycle track days. I used to really enjoy it, but then went to the dirt side and enjoy that even more - it's far cheaper, safer (IMO), a better workout, more fun, and the gear is a lot more comfortable esp. in hot weather.
No doubt, motorcycles are more fun than cars, but now that I have a kid and the responsibilities that go w/ it, I think it's best that I enjoy sportbikes from a spectator perspective now. Still enjoy dirt bikes (and occasionally race cross country), and I'm on a waiting list for a Honda Grom, which I think will be a blast in the real world streets around where I live.

Yea, the slip angle of the Moto GP guys is just jaw dropping.
On an unrelated note, I had a 'The future is here" moment when I saw the giant hydrofoiling catamarans of the America's Cup yacht racing series in action around San Francisco Bay. If you haven't seen them yet tune in to NBC Sprots channel at 3pm Eastern today (15th), the 17th or (maybe) the 19th to see them in action. The Kiwi's almost capsized yesterday in a spectacular incident yesterday.

I loved watching Stoner in MotoGP as he would slide the piss out of the rear from corner entry all the way out. But Marc Marquez is at even more insane level. Watching the race at Silverstone, he had a two-wheel drift going mid-corner..... un-freakin-real In MotoGP, unless you're straddling that line of grip and slide, you aren't going fast enough. Insane balance...
And the boats in America's Cup are insane! Talk about serious technology in those things. And the guys on the boats have major cajones too.

I think it is because another event going on at VIR in same time. Other event is in bigger importance to guys doing sprint races and they would most like go there. That leaves as endurance teams and whatever number shows for sprint races to pay for 3 day weekend. They can't change pricing on entry fees in last minute, it is set for year. So, choice is to cancel or lose money.
That is rumor, not official reason. Economy is making racing hard lately.
