The price drop was across all 26 lines of DFV based R&Ts. I know that Ohlins USA plans to import almost 2X more S2000 DFVs stateside this year. I simply think it is a volume play. We are picking up 8 sets (all pre sold sorry) of 2014 DFVs this week and they are all the same. No new features. The goal is to dominate the Mid-Lower High Tier of Dampers for the selected range they work on.
We bought 5 sets coming in March and 2 are pre sold, so three sets open.

Also, Ohlins spends 6 months drive testing each car to select the Valving & Springs rates. I don't believe any other manufacture really spends the same Time & Effort performing drive tuning of their dampers.

Cool. I know what I'm saving my money for now. This is definitely a reasonable price point.

Right now, it's essentially a toss up between these and the AST 4150s - i'm going to give the advantage to these.

Patrick, are you able to provide some definitive points for the DFVs over the 4150s? My apologies if it's already been covered in this thread - it is an older/longer thread (i've read through it before). Thanks

Sure..

Main Advantage is 3 Separate Speed Oil Paths, All other Dampers only have 2 Different Speed Bidirectional Oil Paths (Even an advantage over TTXs!!)
  • Adjustable Low Speed Oil Paths, Single Adjuster Controls both Rebound & Compression
  • Non Adjustable High Speed Oil Paths
  • Unique 3rd Super High Speed Path; Provides Street Comfort and Track Stability over Large Bumps or Bumps at High Speed
Temperature Sensitive Low Speed Needle Valve improves consistency From Cold Days to Consistent Track Use
Aluminum shock bodies for lighter weight & better heat transfer through out the damper
Separate Ride Height Adjuster with in the lower mount that can adjust ride height independent of Spring Perch and thus no Spring Preload

Details Here

They are now a little under $2500. Used to be $2999

My only complaint about them is for a true track car the rates are too soft. For a mostly street car you probably won't find a better shock.

I agree, the are soft compared to typical all out track cars, but we have had many AutoXs and Track guys compete pretty well. Several get consistent FTD at their local AutoX. There is a wide range of adjustment, 32 clicks, and they can stiffen up quite a bit to reduce body roll.

If you still want more spring, several customers moved the Front 572 lb/in spring to the rear and get new Fronts at 700 lb/in. 700/572 lb in is a great combo if you want more spring. If you want more Spring than that, the shocks would need to be revalved, which we can do to. However, in our opinion, anything more that, we feel you will loose grip and stability. All of our TTX sales have been 700/600 or 650/550 combos.

Either way, the unique valving sets the DFV apart from anything other than the TTX and even then, the DFV can do a few things the TTX can't.

Are you going to refund the ~$500 extra I paid for these last year?

I wish I could, but the current list price is lower than our cost last year including Fees, Shipping & Handling, etc. I never would have expected them to drop, let alone drop so much. In fact the cost of the TTX went up 10% last September so it is a bit of a mystery. We can provide a one time discount on another product if there is something else you are interested in?
